S1, Ep 3: Someone at the Top of the Stairs. American tourists Chrissie Morton and Gillian Pemberton decide to take lodgings at a old boarding house, but while everyone seems friendly enough something doesn't feel quite right. Then a stranger approaches Chrissie - his daughter resided where they are staying, but has since disappeared and thinks it is something to do with the boarding house. Chrissie is uncertain who to trust, but as she investigates she becomes increasingly uneasy - in particular about the forbidden door at the top of the stairs...
Starring Donna Mills, Judy Carne, David De Keyser, Francis Wallis, Alethea Charlton, Brian McGrath, Peter Cellier, Clifford Parrish, Scott Forbes, Rhoda Lewis, Alan Roberto, Laura Collins, Richard Corbett, Charles Hill and Gilly Flower. Originally broadcast on April 28th 1973, this is a genuinely creepy edition to the Thriller series that would of suited Halloween perfectly. With a trans-Atlantic cast with two Americans in Judy Carne and Donna Mills (some years away from Knots Landing), plus the traditional English cast - most notably Alethea Charlton, who died only 3 years later of cancer, and Peter Cellier (as Colonel Wright), incredibly still going strong at 97. This episode was the one that made my aunt decide to watch the rest of the episodes only in the daytime and it might be advisable to do the same. And you really don't want to know what's behind that door at the top of the stairs - or do you? Don't have nightmares now...
