S2, Ep 3: Roger of the Raj. On the eve of the Great War Roger Bartlesham's aristocratic parents are firm believers in the Empire, though Roger, encouraged by socialist Latin teacher Mr Hopper, dreams of equality and opening a tea shop with his sweet-heart Miranda. After a sojourn in India where various officers shoot themselves to atone for breaches in etiquette Roger gets caught up in Hopper's attempt to bring the Russian revolution to England... Starring Michael Palin, Richard Vernon, Joan Sanderson, Jan Francis, Roger Brierley, John Le Mesurier, Allan Cuthbertson, David Griffin, David Warwick, Charles McKeown (yes, him again in this 2nd series), Michael Stainton, Ken Shorter, Dorothy Frere and Douglas Hinton among a top notch cast. This was the final episode of the all too brief Ripping Yarns series, but what a way to go out on. Over the top and with the cast thoroughly enjoying themselves, including a wonderful Joan Sanderson, who was always good value for money. I hope you enjoy it.
