Part 4: 1970. With his high aspirations in tatters and Ted Heath's Tories replacing the Labour Party in office, Nicky finds himself living in a squat and becoming dangerously involved with a group of Marxists intent on overthrowing the Government and the result. Geordie, who is also facing change in his life after the end of his affair with Julia, seeks out Nicky to take him to London and try and cheer him up, little realizing that he is being set up as a fall guy by his boss Benny Barrett as the police investigation into corruption at the Metropolitan Police gathers pace with Roy Johnson heading the inquiry. But Roy finds that corruption runs deep as he faces obstruction and intimidation. Meanwhile Mary decides to break free of her marriage restraints and becomes involved in politics, training for a law degree. Tosker is on his uppers after Benny Barrett gives him money to set up a fruit and veg shop, but it's not before long that they are hit by devastating news...
