A cargo plane carrying an assortment of oilmen and military personnel crashes in the Sahara Desert during a sandstorm. They soon realise they're too far off course to be found and rescued before food and water runs out. Tensions simmer among the survivors as they find themselves forced to trust a coldly logical engineer whose plan to get them out may just be crazy enough to work—or could kill them all.
Directed with characteristic punch by Robert Aldrich, The Flight of the Phoenix balances adventure with human drama as it conducts a surprising and complex examination of authority, honor, and camaraderie among desperate men.
