Part 4 of 7 of the period drama serial from 1981. Things get a little more dangerous for the settlers as they get a taste of native culture and superstition. While Elspeth and native worker Sammy narrowly avoid being trampled to death by a herd of elephants, things get worse for Sammy when his wife miscarries. But Mrs Nimmo's advice that she be taken to hospital is rejected for the local medicine man, and a further tragedy occurs when Robin starts dynamiting old tree trunks. When fellow native worker Njombo falls ill it seems a curse has befallen the place. With the natives fearful, the Grants have to decide whether to fight this with modern methods or explore the mystical native culture in which to tackle this epidemic of misfortune...
