A 27-year-old man and his dog rescued two girls from drowning after their toboggan overshot a snowbank and they fell into the partially frozen North Saskatchewan River.
The sisters, aged 10 and 9, were playing with their friends when their toboggan landed on the edge of the frozen river. The rescuer, Adam Shaw, was walking with his wife and dog, a labrador and husky mix named Rocky, when he heard screaming coming from below the bridge.
Shaw and his dog ran down to help the children, while his wife called the police. Once down at the river, the man was able to pull one of the girls from out of the water, but the other had already begun drifting downstream.
After failing to reach the girl by throwing the dogs leash the dog eventually jumped into the water and swam close enough for her to grab on. Doctors said the two girls will be fine.
