A flash flood warning was issued in a timely manner and was in effect throughout Manhattan and the Bronx, as well as the surrounding areas, according to the National Weather Service. Officials have asked residents to avoid travel and stay away from basements to avoid a repeat of the unfortunate situations seen in 2021, when the region was flooded by Hurricane Ida. The rain was pouring down in powerful torrents, which significantly worsened visibility and were interspersed with deafening peals of thunder. Some parts of New York received 1.5 to 3 inches (38 to 76 mm) of rain, according to weather stations, turning the streets into rushing rivers. Several subway lines were also closed, with water levels as high as 14 inches (36 cm) at some stations. The commuter rail system suspended train service on the New Haven line as well as in the Grand Central area. There were delays of up to 45 minutes on the Hudson line, and trains on the Harlem line had 70-minute delays. One of the worst floods seems to have occurred in New Jersey. The waters of the river in the Lodi region rose by 3 feet - that's about 1 meter - in a matter of hours. According to the weather service, in some areas of the northeastern part of the state, residents were evacuated from flooded homes.
