2017 Audi Q5 Production
The new vehicle was expected to be built in Audi's home town of Ingolstadt. It was expected need an investment of €300 million in production tooling and expansion.
Audi also assembles its Q5 model in India to avoid import taxes and compete with BMW AG, Daimler AG and Porsche AG in the world's second fastest-growing major economy.
The state-of-the-art facility in Mexico was completed in three and a half years. The plant currently consists of a press shop, body shop, paint shop, and the obligatory assembly line. Right next to the plant, Audi inaugurated a park comprised of seven suppliers and logistics providers. Something like three-thirds of the parts that go into the second-gen Audi Q5 are sourced from the NAFTA region. Furthermore, more than 100 companies supply Audi Mexico's San Jose Chiapa production facility with parts for the all-new Q5.
Thanks to modern styling, 5-link independent suspension, and as much as 286 PS from the 3.0 TDI of the SQ5, the all-new Q5 ticks all the right boxes. It’s also marginally lighter than the old model, partly thanks to the Volkswagen Group’s MLB 2 platform. In other words, the Q5 shares many of its underpinnings with the current-gen A4.
