If Giant Viruses blur the line between cellular and acellular "life", then subviral infectious agents blur the line between "definitely not alive" and "maybe alive?". I'm obsessed with these "things" that carry a life-vibe, but fall quite short of what we'd typically consider to be alive! Satellite viruses, viriforms, prions, defective interfering particles, virusoids, viroids and obelisks make up one of biology's most interesting "enigmatic" groups.
