The street clashes, which began on Sunday after the government introduced new laws against protests, appear to mark a distinct shift in the mostly peaceful mass demonstrations against President Viktor Yanukovych.
Protesters kept up a near-constant bombardment of police lines near the Verkhovna Rada parliament in the capital. Police replied with rubber bullets, stun grenades and teargas in temperatures that sank to -10C.
Street clashes and mass riots in Kiev still continues as Ukraine moves toward a new revolution.
