Фотография "Photos by Ronan Donovan @ronan_donovan | This is Poppy. At the age of 42, she was the oldest living mountain gorilla on record. I had the pleasure of photographing Poppy for a @natgeo article on the legacy of Dian Fossey.
It has been announced by the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International @savinggorillas that Poppy is presumed dead since her last confirmed sighting in August. In addition to Poppy’s significance as the oldest recorded mountain gorilla, she was also the last gorilla to have been named by Dian Fossey. It’s the end of that direct link back to Fossey, yet the legacy of her work can be seen in Poppy’s old age. For a mountain gorilla to live out its years and die of old age is a huge conservation success story to be applauded. The tireless work continues on the ground and internationally to save the remaining 1,000 mountain gorillas. Please follow @ronan_donovan for more images from this @natgeo assignment."
